DIY No Sew Kid's Poison Ivy Halloween Costume

Hey everyone! It's Spooky Season, and I freakin' love it! I'm pretty hot and cold with Vale's Halloween costumes. Some years she decides to be something that's easier for me to buy (with some added spice of course), and other years she wants to be something that I want to make myself. This year she chose to be DC villain Poison Ivy and I was so excited to make it. My sister and I thought Batman & Robin was one of the greatest movies of all time when we were kids. Poison Ivy was the ultimate bada** and so I'm living out kid fantasies by dressing Vale up like Uma circa '97. The name of the game here was cool costume, kid appropriate, but still DOPE.

Our inspiration:

What you'll need:

  1. Green Dance Bodysuit. I opted for one with gloves and feet so that Vale could wear comfortable shoes underneath, and so I could glue fake nails to the fingers.

  2. Red Wig. I got a bright red, not a ginger red, and opted for one that was long in case I decide to do buns (pictured above) for Trick or Treating.

  3. Ivy Vines. Unfortunately I couldn't find just the leaves, but cutting the leaves off the vine was no big deal at all.

  4. Eyelash glue. You can buy this at any local big box store or pharmacy, but here is the one I ordered.

  5. Red press on nails, petite. These were the perfect size, and there were plenty left over so they would be fun for dress up later.

  6. Hot Glue Gun.

  7. Scissors.

  8. Green Marker

Now, let's make it:

  • Put the costume on your kiddo and mark it up. I put marks with green marker where her chest was, crotch, tushy, and feet. You could barely see the marks, which was great in case I forgot, or couldn't, cover them. I did this so I would know exactly where to place the ivy, and where not to put it. Obviously, I didn't want ivy to be in spots that would cause her discomfort later (i.e. butt crack/armpit leaves).

  • Glue on the leaves. Take the costume off your kid, and lie it out on the flat surface where you plan to glue on your Ivy. I cut a bunch of leaves off to start so I could work quickly. I focused most of the ivy on the chest markings, below her belly, and on her feet. Be creative! I had some spots with a lot of leaves, and then sort of made trails (like vines would be) out from those areas. Flip the costume over and do the same on the back. When it dries (only a few minutes) move on to the sides. I glued some leaves around her left wrist, and one on her right pointer finger so she would have a bracelet and ring. Because Vale's extra, and so am I.

  • Glue on the nails. I sized the nails up to Vale's fingers and then glued them on the fingertips of the costume. This isn't a necessary step, but it was definitely her favorite part! It also adds another fun pop of red.

  • Glue three ivy leaves together in an arch to make ivy eye brows. This was super easy. I just glued them together, and then made a line of glue on the back of the three leaves and allowed it to harden.

  • Lastly, put it all together! We applied makeup first, slipped into the costume (shoes on first for actual Halloween), then wig. After everything was on I used eyelash glue to attach the Ivy eye brows we made. The stuck on right away and didn't hurt her when I removed them.

How cute did this come out?!

We're getting so excited for Halloween! I'm going to be Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) but no catsuit so don't get to excited folks. If you decide to try this PLEASE share it with me. Hope this helps someone else traveling on the hot mess express knock out an awesome costume.

Happy Halloween!!

xoxo

It's amazing how the show has fueled the market for Yellowstone Merch. It's about connecting with the story. For officially inspired gear, the Western Jacket store is a fan-favorite resource.

This was a really useful read — I like how you explained the challenges students face when dealing with accounting concepts. It reminded me of the many times I’ve seen questions like “help with accounting assignment?” pop up in student forums. For those situations, a site like Accounting Homework Doer can be a practical resource to get clear, step-by-step guidance.
